Press Release - March 2009

New Material Technology from ebalta
at JEC Composites 2009

ebablock® EP 138 - the epoxy cast to size block material from ebalta

JEC Composites 2009
Porte de Versailles, Paris
24 - 26 March 2009
Stand No. H 58, Hall 1
Structural composite section of a boat deck produced from carbon fibre and ebalta's epoxy resin AH140 using the vacuum infusion process.

Renowned for high performance materials, unmatched technical service and focused project management, ebalta is exhibiting at JEC Composites and is using this international industry forum to showcase their broad range of innovative solutions for composite applications.

On show for the first time is the newly introduced ebablock EP 138 - an epoxy, cast to size block material, castable up to 250 mm in thickness which has been developed primarily for prepreg tooling applications. This new service provides an epoxy solution for the composites market, and complements ebalta's current polyurethane cast to size product range, producing customer specific geometries within just a few working days.

Mint green in colour, ebablock EP 138 is a revolutionary new advanced epoxy system with a heat resistance of 135°C and good dimensional stability, which features a very fine surface structure resulting in a very smooth surface finish after milling ensuring the production of high quality composite components. With a heat resistance of
135°C, this also makes it suitable for autoclave applications.

Like other ebablock materials available from ebalta, EP 138 can be cast as a customised, joint-less block to a customer's individual requirements and offers savings through reduced milling times, less waste and minimal finishing.

One of the main exhibits on the ebalta stand this year is a 6 meter high, structural composite section of a boat deck, produced from carbon fibre and ebalta's epoxy resin system AH 140. The part was produced using the vacuum infusion process for YSA / Sven Akermann GmbH, a leading yacht designer and manufacturer, based in Schechen, Germany, who aim to build the fastest and most exciting race yachts available. The AH 140, with a temperature resistance of 120°C, was the material of choice for the application due to its excellent dimensional stability at elevated temperatures, specifically required for these exterior components to meet the demands of the marine industry.

As part of their comprehensive range of materials for the composite market, ebalta will also be showing their polyurethane P24 and epoxy P26 machineable, lay-up modelling pastes, used for large scale models or patterns in the wind energy, aerospace, automotive and marine industries.

Other products offered by ebalta include tooling boards, gel coats, GL-listed epoxy resins qualified for laminating applications in the marine market as well as a broad range of vacuum consumables.

"For more than 30 years, ebalta has been specialising in the development and supply of high performance tooling materials coupled with a comprehensive service standard" said Andre Neutzler, Managing Director of ebalta, "Now we're thrilled to introduce our new material technology and showcase our latest products and innovations here at JEC for customers in the composites market."

ebalta's products are distributed through subsidiaries in France and the United Kingdom and a strong network of distributors and agents world-wide.
