Sustainability

ebalta sustainability contribution

ebalta are committed to taking responsibility for the preservation and protection of the environment on a daily basis.

Our goal is to keep our ecological footprint as low as possible. To this end, ebalta are continuously increasing and standardising the proportion of recycled and renewable raw materials. Another component of our sustainability strategy is to offset and compensate for the remaining CO2 emissions. We have been certified as a carbon-neutral company through CO2 offsetting since January 2021.

In order to meet this goal, conserve resources and to take the scarcity of goods into account, the following guidelines result in measures for our company:

Measures for CO2 reduction – Materials

In Germany the research and development team is continuously working to increase and standardise the proportion of recycled and renewable raw materials.

The complete cycle of recyclable materials is included in the reduction measures. For example, cutting residues from board processing are processed into briquettes and used as fillers for resin boards.

We want to produce individual products, including the product life cycle, in a carbon-neutral way. To this end, a product carbon footprint (PCF) is drawn up. Currently, our casting compound GM 1914 for the production of climbing holds is already certified carbon neutral. The product contains over 40 % renewable raw materials in the end product.

Measures for CO2 reduction – Energy consumption

In order to reduce ebaltas’ CO2 emissions as much as possible, they have a photovoltaic system on the roof. In addition, the entire company is supplied with 100 % green electricity. All lamps in the buildings have been changed to LED.

Existing production processes are continuously optimised to reduce energy consumption and thus the impact on emissions. For example, heat exchangers are used to recover heat from the exhaust air.

Measures for CO2 reduction – Environmental management

ebalta increase the environmental awareness of employees through regular employee training and instruction.

With the help of the data determined by the environmental management representative, ebalta draws up an annual CO2 climate balance. Gaps and potentials for CO2 reduction are regularly pointed out by workshops of the company natureOffice GmbH, a member of the Alliance for Climate and Development.

Within the framework of our certified environmental management system, we regularly check the implementation of our goals and document the progress.

Offsetting and certificates

The direct and indirect emissions for energy generation remaining in the carbon footprint are offset or “compensated” by ebalta through investments in climate protection projects.

Compensation in 2020 was achieved by supporting the certified climate protection project “Hydroelectric Project in Kinnaur”, India. This climate protection project generates clean energy from hydropower and thus avoids emissions from fossil fuels.

In addition to offsetting, ebalta also supports PROJECT TOGO, a natural forest reforestation project in which self-sustaining value chains are established. The donation from ebalta will be used to purchase an oil mill for the women’s cooperative in Kotokopé, Togo.

The company natureOffice GmbH, member of the Alliance for Climate and Development, supports ebalta in carrying out the compensation and certification of carbon neutrality.
